1. Ussher PhD Scheme (Incoming students only)
Only PhD applications that have been completed and granted ‘unconditional offer’ on my my.tcd.ie application system by the 30th of April 2018 are eligible to apply. Application is done by ticking the ‘Ussher’ award box in the online application system. No other documents or materials need to be submitted by the student. Please note that these awards are made at Faculty level, following evaluation by representatives from Schools across the Faculty. Results of this competition will be known by the 16th of May.

3. PhD Scholarship, School of Social Work and Social Policy – Migrant Homelessness in Ireland: A Mixed Methods Study
The School of Social Work and Social Policy, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) is seeking to appoint a fully funded PhD candidate under the newly established Provost PhD ScholarshipAwards. The studentship covers tuition fees (EU or non-EU) and an annual stipend of €16,000 for four years.
Expectations:
The successful candidate will have an excellent academic record, demonstrate a strong commitment to PhD research and the ability and motivation to write a PhD dissertation that is of exceptional quality. S/he will register as a PhD student in the School of Social Work and Social Policy in September 2018.The successful PhD candidate with work with Dr. Paula Mayock on a study entitled ‘Migrant Homelessness in Ireland: A Mixed Methods Study’ The successful applicant is expected to produce an independent piece of research in the form of a PhD dissertation and will work under the supervision of Dr. Paula Mayock.
Selection Process:
The deadline for receipt of applications is: Monday April 16th, 2018.

The following documentation only must be submitted in order to be considered for the post:
1. A full Curriculum Vitae (including the names and contact details of two academic referees).
2. A covering letter (no longer that 2 A4 pages) outlining the applicant’s profile and skills and including a statement of motivation for applying for the PhD Scholarship.
3. A writing sample, written in English, not longer than 10,000 words. This writing sample should be submitted as a word or pdf document and can be: a) a chapter from your Master’s dissertation; b) a published article where you are a named author; c) a research report where you are a named author.

Irish Students
The Student Grant Scheme pays fees plus a small stipend. It is means-tested and may be based on parents’ income if the student is living in their parent’s home or is less than 23 years of age. Students over 23 years of age and living independently may quality for the Mature Student Grant Scheme. For more information please check ‘Student Finance’ website or contact your local authority.
If you are a self-funding student you can apply to the Revenue Commissioners for tax relief on your tuition fees.
You may apply to the Irish Research Council for funding. No teaching is allowed in first year and a maximum of three hours per week thereafter. Applications are usually due in January. Your application must be cleared internally by Trinity College first and there is an internal deadline for applications.
North-South Scholarships. Universities Ireland, the body which promotes collaboration between the nine universities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, offers scholarships to students undertaking postgraduate studies in the other Irish jurisdiction. This scholarship is worth €15,000 and must be taken up in September or October.

You may be eligible for a US Federal Loan from the Department of Education or you can take out a private education loan from a bank in the US. For more information about Federal Loans check ‘Federal Student Aid’ website.
Canadian students can apply for a loan from the Canadian Student Loan Program. You can take out a private loan from the Canadian Higher Education Loan Program. Application forms are available from the ‘International Student Loan’ website.
Additional Sources of Funding (Non EEA Students)
The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship Programme for 2018/19 is now open for applications. Government of Ireland International Scholarships are awarded to high calibre students from non-EEA countries to study in Ireland for a period of one year. The HEA will award a scholarship fund to the student amounting to €10,000 for one study year. This fund is directed at supporting student costs and living expenses. Trinity would provide a full tuition fee waiver to successful students for the specified scholarship year. More information is available Government of Ireland Scholarships 2018/19
